Spaces at Woolwich Works
2 spaces availableAbout Woolwich Works
An RIBA award-winning cultural complex inside the former Royal Arsenal, Woolwich Works opened in 2021 following a multi-million pound restoration of Grade II and II* listed buildings on the south bank of the Thames. The result is a venue that ranges from a 1,800-capacity industrial hall to intimate gallery spaces, connected by a courtyard that transforms into a festival site each summer — and all of it served by the Elizabeth line.
Woolwich Works' Range of Spaces
The Fireworks Factory anchors the complex: 1,500 square metres of flat floor with exposed brick, asymmetric glass roof, dedicated control room, and production infrastructure that handles everything from gala dinners for 550 to exhibitions and live music for 1,800. Around it, the Workers' Bar and Workers' Yard courtyard create indoor-outdoor flow through glass walls and large connecting doors. Knight Gallery, Beanfeast, and a series of studios offer smaller spaces for breakouts, intimate dinners, and creative workshops — all within the same site.
Heritage and Modern Infrastructure at Woolwich Works
The buildings date from the 1870s, built as workshops within the Royal Arsenal's munitions complex. The restoration preserved the industrial character — brick walls, painted concrete, period glazed façades — while installing comprehensive audio systems, lighting rigs, acoustic baffles, and a loading dock capable of handling large-scale production. Home to Punchdrunk, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and the Chineke! Orchestra, Woolwich Works has cultural credentials that extend well beyond venue hire.
Events and Access at Woolwich Works
Conferences, award ceremonies, product launches, weddings, festivals, exhibitions, filming, and live performance all feature in the venue's programme. Five approved caterers cover the range from KERB's street food to Social Pantry's formal dining. The Elizabeth line, DLR, Thames Clipper, and proximity to London City Airport make the riverside location more accessible than the SE18 postcode might suggest. The motto woven into the site's history — 'each for all and all for each' — captures the ethos: a collaborative, culturally rooted venue that takes large-scale events seriously.
