Woodberry Wetlands

Woodberry Wetlands centres on the Coal House — a Grade II listed 19th-century brick building restored with contemporary interiors and set at the edge of an 11-hectare nature reserve in Stoke Newington. It's the smaller, more intimate counterpart to Walthamstow Wetlands, and while it shares the London Wildlife Trust management and conservation model, the experience here is quite different: design-led rather than industrial, with a rooftop terrace that provides the defining moment.

The Coal House

The restoration balanced heritage preservation with a clean, modern aesthetic. Inside, muted tones and bespoke handmade furniture create a bright, open space that feels considered rather than converted. Natural light fills the main room, and the proportions are intimate — 40 seated — giving even larger events an anchor space that feels personal. It's a building that wears its history lightly, with the 19th-century brickwork and industrial origins serving as texture rather than theme.

Reservoirs and Rooftop Views

The rooftop terrace is what separates Woodberry from most London event venues. Panoramic views stretch across both East and West reservoirs, over reedbeds and wildflower meadow, with the city skyline forming the distant backdrop. The terrace closes at 9pm, which positions it perfectly for ceremonies, golden-hour receptions, and the kind of arrival moment that sets the tone for an evening. Below, waterside terraces and a garden lawn extend the outdoor footprint through spring and summer.

Intimate Scale, Flexible Reach

The Coal House seats 40 indoors, but the venue's capacity expands significantly in warmer months. An outdoor awning accommodates up to 120 seated or 200 standing, and full site hire reaches 150 to 200 guests — a range that covers everything from a wedding for 60 to a summer reception for 180. In winter, the venue operates at a more contained 80 without additional marquee coverage, lending a cosiness that suits candlelit celebrations and smaller gatherings. Manor House tube is eight minutes on foot, conservation profits underpin every booking, and the setting — reedbeds, reservoir light, city skyline — does what no amount of decoration can achieve.
