The Grade I listed building spans Georgian heritage rooms, a contemporary glass-roofed atrium above Faraday's original laboratory, and the famous amphitheatre-style Theatre at its centre. Spaces range from the intimate Writing Room — floor-to-ceiling windows, breakout-sized — through the book-lined Library and Georgian Room to the 400-seat Theatre familiar from the televised Christmas Lectures. The Demonstration Room provides a blank-canvas contemporary space for exhibitions and pop-up formats. Ground floor, first floor, and lower ground floor each carry a different character, connected by the grand staircase from the Albemarle Street entrance.
