Spaces at The Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn

Six centuries of continuous legal history across eleven acres in the middle of Holborn. Lincoln's Inn is the oldest and largest of the four Inns of Court, dating to 1422, and the range of event spaces it contains reflects that accumulated history — from a Tudor Revival Great Hall opened by Queen Victoria to a contemporary conference centre opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 2018.
Lincoln's Inn — Historic Halls and Modern Facilities
The Great Hall is the flagship: 450 standing, 280 for dinner, a minstrels' gallery, G.F. Watts fresco, and an oak ceiling that makes most event venues look like function rooms. The Old Hall predates it by more than 350 years — built in 1490, it's one of London's finest surviving Tudor buildings, with original roof timbers, stained glass, and Hogarth's 'Paul Before Felix' on the north wall. It seats 120 for dinner and takes 200 standing. Below the Great Hall, the Ashworth Centre brings a completely different register: a purpose-built conference space with a 158-seat tiered lecture theatre, ten meeting rooms across two floors, and integrated AV throughout. The Members' Common Room — a Victorian kitchen conversion with restored vaulted ceilings and a south-facing terrace — handles 45 seated or 90 standing for more intimate events.
Summer Events at Lincoln's Inn
During June and July, a stretch tent goes up on the North Lawn, creating outdoor event space for up to 300 guests surrounded by the Inn's gardens and historic architecture. The Great Hall Terrace takes 450 for standing receptions overlooking the estate. These seasonal spaces are among the few genuine outdoor event options in central London with in-house catering and historic institutional grounds rather than commercial rooftop or courtyard settings.
Lincoln's Inn — A Working Legal Institution
Events here fund the Inn's charitable work supporting barristers' training and development. The in-house catering team operates exclusively — no external caterers — and has built a reputation for quality that matches the setting. The licence runs until 00:30. The Inn closes completely during August and Easter. Chancery Lane and Holborn stations are both nearby, with limited free parking available on the estate for guests arriving by car.
