Spaces at Stationers' Hall & Garden
2 spaces availableAbout Stationers' Hall & Garden
Four interlinking rooms and a secluded private garden, all within a Grade I listed Livery Hall completed in 1673, steps from St Paul's Cathedral. Stationers' Hall is one of the few remaining ancient Livery Halls in the City of London — and one of even fewer that combines genuinely grand interiors with outdoor space hidden entirely from the street.
Inside Stationers' Hall
The Livery Hall is the centrepiece: carved oak panelling, gleaming oak flooring, and floodlit stained glass windows — including the St Cecilia window — that cast warm coloured light across the room. Candles are permitted throughout, which is rare in heritage venues and transforms evening events. The Court Room brings a different character: bright and elegant, with Rococo gold ornamentation and an 18th-century carved mantelpiece attributed to Grinling Gibbons. A decorative wrought iron staircase leads from the Court Room directly down to the Garden — a transition between ceremony and reception that wedding planners particularly value. The Stock Room, with its 17th-century oak panelling, connects the two larger spaces and works as a natural breakout for drinks, refreshments, or dancing.
A newly renovated Charter Room seats 12 for boardroom meetings or intimate private dining, with views over the Garden.
The Garden at Stationers' Hall
The Garden is dominated by a 200-year-old London Plane tree — a genuinely extraordinary thing to encounter in the middle of the Square Mile. Walled and completely secluded, it accommodates up to 250 guests for standing receptions, summer parties, and BBQs. The tree marks the historical spot where heretical and pirated books were burned during the Tudor era, adding a layer of story that resonates in a hall with deep connections to the printing and publishing trades. For summer events, the Garden alone justifies the booking — rare outdoor space in a part of London where almost none exists.
Stationers' Hall for Events
Exclusive hire includes all four rooms and the Garden as standard, which means events flow naturally between spaces without negotiating additional access. The venue is licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships seven days a week. Following a 2021 refurbishment, the entire building is fully accessible with air cooling throughout — significant for a Grade I listed venue. Approved external caterers handle the food from a curated list, and in-house AV is managed by Eclipse with PA throughout. Events operate 8am to 10pm. St Paul's station is a two-minute walk; Blackfriars and City Thameslink are equally close.
