Directly beneath one of London's most recognisable churches, on the corner of Trafalgar Square, The Crypt at St Martin-in-the-Fields offers an event setting that no purpose-built venue can manufacture. Eighteenth-century brick vaulted ceilings, stone arches, and an 18-foot ceiling height create underground grandeur at a scale — 500 standing — that most historic spaces can't match.

The Crypt and Gallery at St Martin-in-the-Fields

The Crypt itself is a single open-plan space stretching approximately 24 by 21 metres, with the vaulted brick ceiling creating a rhythm of arches overhead. During the day it operates as a public café; for events, it transforms entirely through themed lighting, flexible dressing, and full hospitality services. The adjacent Gallery adds a self-contained secondary zone — 150 standing or 60 seated with its own facilities — that works as a reception space, a quieter breakout area, or an extension of the main Crypt for larger events.

West End Parties to Corporate Receptions

The Crypt has hosted West End opening night parties, fashion shows, film crews using it as a location backdrop, and wedding receptions alongside corporate networking events and brand activations. The 2am licence (3am on request for the Gallery) means evening events have genuine late-night capability. Three-phase power supports film and photography equipment. SIA security, staffing, set-up and close-down services are included with hire, and the in-house catering team handles everything from seated dinners for 200 to canapé receptions for 500.

Beyond The Crypt, St Martin's Hall and the Lightwell handle meetings and conferences — 200 standing, 100 seated, 130 theatre-style — with natural daylight and contemporary design. The Desmond Tutu Room and Peter Benenson Room offer boardroom-scale breakout spaces. An outdoor Courtyard is available for summer events. The entire complex sits 100 metres from Charing Cross station. By holding events at St Martin-in-the-Fields, organisers also support the church's ongoing work with communities and homelessness in London — purpose built into the booking.
