St John's Smith Square

A Baroque concert hall in the middle of Westminster's quietest square, built in 1728 during Queen Anne's reign and Grade I listed since. Now operating as Sinfonia Smith Square, the building's core mission remains classical music — but its event hire has become increasingly significant, with fashion houses, corporate clients, and private celebrations drawn to a space that most purpose-built venues simply cannot replicate.

The Main Hall is defined by its soaring canopy ceiling, a single brass chandelier of considerable scale, and a black-and-white chequerboard marble floor that photographs with instant impact. Twelve columns frame the space. A built-in stage with theatre lighting sits at one end, flanked by a Klais pipe organ and two Steinway grand pianos — permanent features available for events. The hall holds 500 standing, 324 in retractable concert seating, or 120 for round-table dinners. Fashion shows and awards ceremonies benefit from the built-in stage and lighting rig. The Footstool and Smith Square

Below the Main Hall, the Footstool Restaurant occupies a vaulted brick-arch crypt — an intimate contrast to the grandeur above. It works as a pre-dinner drinks space, a breakout area during conferences, or a standalone hire for smaller functions. Leafi catering operates on-site with a locally sourced menu. The alcohol licence runs until 23:00 with extensions available, and the venue is wedding licensed.
