Sir John Soane designed this building in 1826 as a church. Nearly two centuries later, the Grade I listing confirms what anyone walking through the door already knows — the architecture is exceptional. One Marylebone opened as an exclusive event venue in 2008 and has since become one of London's most recognised hire spaces, winning Best Venue for Gala Dinners, Awards or Weddings at the London Venue Catering Awards 2025.

One Marylebone's Event Spaces

The venue offers five hireable areas across multiple levels, each with a distinct character. Soane Hall — the ground-floor centrepiece — is the deconsecrated church itself: 27-foot ceilings, original altar and organ, opulent mosaics, and stained-glass windows creating a sense of occasion that no amount of production design can fabricate. The Galleries occupy the first floor as a U-shaped suite of contemporary spaces (East, West, and South) flooded with natural daylight from floor-to-ceiling windows — a deliberate contrast to the heritage grandeur below. The Vaults sit underground, a two-level space with d&b audiotechnik sound system and a 3am licence, purpose-built for after-parties. God's Garden and the West Garden provide landscaped outdoor space on the west side of the building, while nine individually designed Greenhouses on the east side host private dining for up to 22 per greenhouse.

The Architecture as Event Asset

One Marylebone's defining quality is that the building does the atmospheric work. Light projections against the Soane Hall's architecture create genuinely dramatic effects. The stained glass, chandeliers, and mosaics photograph beautifully from every angle. Leading fashion and beauty brands use the space regularly for launches and showcases, drawn by interiors that create visual impact without requiring set builds. Weddings are licensed in the Hall — the backdrop is the ceremony. The Galleries' pared-back wooden floors and white walls offer the opposite: a brandable canvas where clients can go contemporary without fighting against period features.

The building stands on its own island directly opposite Great Portland Street tube station, with King's Cross, Euston, and Paddington all within a 10-minute taxi ride. One Dining operates as the in-house catering partner, bringing elegance and creativity developed specifically for the venue's spaces. Approved external caterers are also accepted, and dry hire is available. Superfast wifi, cutting-edge AV, and an experienced in-house events team handle production logistics within the constraints — and possibilities — of a Grade I listed building.
