About Museum Of London
Now operating as London Museum Spaces, the former Museum of London at 150 London Wall houses one piece of technology that no other UK venue can match: a 48-metre 360-degree digital ellipse suspended from the ceiling of the Ellipse Hall, fully programmable to display anything from branded film to interactive social media content. It's the reason this venue appears on shortlists for awards ceremonies, product launches, and gala dinners — and it's the reason events here look like nothing else in London.
From Public Museum to Dedicated Event Venue
The museum closed to the public in December 2022, and the building now functions full-time as an events venue with expanded daytime availability. The new London Museum opens at Smithfield in late 2026, but the 150 London Wall site continues operating — and the shift to dedicated venue hire means spaces that were previously restricted to evenings are now available throughout the day.
The Ellipse Hall and its included Entrance Hall anchor the venue, combining for up to 1,000 standing or 420 seated across a dramatic main room and a contemporary arrival space with futuristic built-in bar. Beyond these, the Terrace Gallery brings natural daylight and private garden access for up to 150 standing, the Garden Room handles intimate dinners for 60, the Weston Theatre provides a purpose-built 230-seat lecture space, and the Terrace Boardroom seats 12.
Cultural Context with Technological Edge
The institutional weight of the museum setting — the architecture, the location adjacent to the Barbican, the not-for-profit ethos where hire revenue supports London's collections — gives events here a cultural credibility that commercial venues don't naturally carry. The digital ellipse then layers in a technological capability that most cultural venues can't touch. That combination — gravitas and spectacle — is what makes the venue distinctive.
Catering runs through an accredited supplier list, the alcohol licence extends to 1am, and in-house technical support covers the ellipse and AV requirements. Barbican, Moorgate, and St Paul's stations are all within walking distance.
Who Books London Museum Spaces
Award ceremonies are the signature — the ellipse handles winner branding, visual spectacle, and ambient transformation all in one. Conferences and AGMs use the Weston Theatre for presentations and the Ellipse Hall for plenary sessions. Gala dinners for up to 350 gain from the combination of scale, technology, and cultural setting. Product launches that want environmental immersion — where the space itself becomes part of the brand story — find the programmable ellipse does things no standard venue AV can achieve.
