Lighthouse Venue

Originally opened as The Regal Cinemas in 1940, Lighthouse Venue in Camberwell is the third-largest single-screen cinema ever built in the UK — a Grade II listed Art Deco auditorium now operating as one of South London's most striking event spaces. The scale is the first thing that registers: 825 square metres of floor space beneath the soaring proportions of a building designed to hold audiences of over a thousand.

Cinema Heritage at Lighthouse Camberwell

The venue's trajectory through London's cultural landscape tells its own story — from The Regal to ABC Cinemas, through a stint as Gala Bingo, and now refurbished by its church owners into a space that balances Art Deco character with modern event functionality. The recent refurbishment has preserved the period details while ensuring the infrastructure meets contemporary standards. Projection, AV, and sound systems are built in, a legacy of the building's cinema DNA that benefits every event using the space.

Scale and Affordability at Lighthouse Venue

At 1,200 standing capacity in the main hall, Lighthouse handles audiences that only a handful of London venues can accommodate in a single room. Banqueting for 500 and theatre-style configurations extend the format options. The Camberwell SE5 location provides a genuine cost advantage over equivalent-scale venues in the West End or City — the same dramatic proportions and Art Deco backdrop at a fraction of central London hire fees. For large-format events where impact matters but budget discipline is real, that combination is difficult to match elsewhere.

Practical Details at Lighthouse Venue

Lighthouse operates as a dry hire venue with add-on services available for catering, bar provision, floristry, and decorative hire. Availability runs Monday to Saturday 9am–11pm and Sunday from 2pm. On-site parking — a rarity for London event spaces of this scale — serves both supplier access and guest convenience.
