Hackney Church

A Grade II* listed church restored by minimalist architect John Pawson CBE — the same hand behind the Abbey of Novy Dvur and the Design Museum — in collaboration with visual artist Es Devlin and Thomas Ford & Partners, completed in 2022. The result is a venue that pairs ecclesiastical scale with contemporary restraint: soaring ceilings, huge windows flooding the interior with natural light, and a stripped-back aesthetic that amplifies whatever an event brings to the space.

Scale and Production Capability at Hackney Church

The Nave alone holds 1,750 standing or 550 seated, with a concert-ready d&b audio system and industry-standard AV and lighting provisions already installed. Full venue hire extends to 1,800 standing by adding back-of-house rooms — The Library, Study, and Box Room — which double as green rooms, production offices, and VIP lounges. The Litchfield Road Hall nearby provides additional conference facilities and a fully fitted industrial kitchen. Ed Sheeran, Biffy Clyro, Lianne La Havas, and Japanese Breakfast have all performed here — and the production infrastructure reflects that pedigree.

Hackney Church for Events Beyond Music

The Nave's dimensions — nearly 20 metres wide between columns, 30 metres from front-of-house to stage — create a canvas for immersive experiences, brand activations, awards ceremonies, film shoots, art installations, and wedding receptions at a scale most London venues can't accommodate. Two bespoke bars at the rear of the Nave, a temporary first-floor balcony bar, and on-site catering facilities mean the operational infrastructure matches the architectural ambition. Large parking facilities with 20-plus spaces and full disabled access including a ground-floor access area near the stage handle the practical side.
