Before retro gaming bars were a London category, there was Four Quarters. Founded in 2014, the brand pioneered the arcade bar concept in the UK, and the Elephant Park flagship is where the formula operates at its fullest — over 30 original restored arcade machines from the golden age of gaming, a proper craft beer and cocktail bar, diner food, and an outdoor terrace, all within one of south London's most ambitious regeneration developments.
Original Machines, Not Reproductions
The distinction matters. Four Quarters sources and restores genuine vintage cabinets — Pac-Man machines from the early '80s, pinball tables, dedicated rhythm games, fighting games, and racing sims spanning three decades of arcade history. Each one has been brought back to working condition with the original hardware intact. The nostalgia is specific and physical: the sound of quarters dropping, the resistance of a well-worn joystick, the flicker of a CRT screen. Modern reproductions get the games right but miss the tactile experience entirely.
The collection sits alongside four retro console booths and two Xbox Series X setups, creating a gaming spectrum that runs from '70s coin-op through to current generation. Two HDMI big screens handle group gaming sessions and can double as presentation displays for corporate hires.
Elephant Park and the Wider Setting
Four Quarters' position within the Elephant Park development gives it a context that most gaming bars lack — a modern, well-designed public realm rather than a converted basement or railway arch. The outdoor terrace seats 70 and adds a social layer to events that's hard to replicate in subterranean venues. Elephant & Castle Station is nearby on the Northern and Bakerloo lines, and the surrounding area has transformed into one of south London's most energetic neighbourhoods for food, drink, and culture.
