Browns Old Jewry

Browns Old Jewry occupies one of the City's more striking buildings — a former Commonwealth Bank of Australia whose grand banking hall architecture now houses a British brasserie with serious event credentials. The imposing facade on Old Jewry gives way to soaring ceilings and huge windows inside, a setting that communicates quality through architecture alone rather than requiring production spend to manufacture atmosphere.

A Banking Hall Turned Brasserie

The 2016 refurbishment preserved what makes the building impressive — the scale, the proportions, the sense of arrival — while adding a split-floor restaurant and bar operation. The ground floor runs a full-length bar popular with City workers through the week, while the mezzanine above operates as its own level with dedicated bar and event infrastructure. A private dining room off the mezzanine seats 12 for boardroom or intimate dining.

Events at Browns Old Jewry

For event planners, the appeal is a building that does the atmosphere work before any planning begins. The mezzanine seats 120 for dinner or holds 160 standing, with its own cocktail stations and presentation equipment. Full venue hire across both floors takes up to 390 standing. Weekend exclusive hire opens the entire space for weddings and private celebrations — a rare opportunity to have a building of this character entirely to yourself.

City Location and Practicalities

The Old Jewry address places you between Bank station and Moorgate, at the centre of the City's financial district. In-house catering, cocktail masterclasses, and the Browns brand's established hospitality standards mean the venue handles food and service without requiring external suppliers. The licence runs to midnight with extensions available.

A Note on Status

Browns Old Jewry has been reported as permanently closed on the official Browns Restaurants website and confirmed by multiple review platforms as of April 2025. Planners should verify current availability directly before enquiring.
