Backyard Comedy Club

Backyard Comedy Club has been a fixture of Bethnal Green's Cambridge Heath Road for over two decades, building a reputation as London's biggest purpose-built comedy venue. The roster of performers who've passed through — Dave Chappelle, Russell Howard, Joe Lycett, James Acaster, among many others — speaks to its standing in the UK comedy circuit. But behind the unassuming East London facade sits a venue that's as capable as an event space as it is as a comedy club.

Twenty Years of Stand-Up, Built Into the Walls

The 2013 rebuild brought state-of-the-art acoustics and modern facilities without stripping the personality that twenty years of live performance had embedded. The result is a space that feels both professional and characterful — whimsical artwork and quirky installations share the room with a pool table, foosball, darts, and board games. The bar area has the feel of a well-worn local that happens to have concert-grade sound, and that combination of polish and personality is hard to find in purpose-built event venues.

Production Infrastructure

Three independent PA systems — comedy, main room, and bar — give the venue an audio setup that most 300-capacity spaces don't come close to matching. The comedy PA is optimised for speech, which means presentations and panels sound as good as the stand-up the room was designed for. The main room system handles live music and larger events. Air conditioning keeps the space comfortable at full capacity, and the single-level layout makes the entire venue wheelchair accessible without compromise.

East London's 300-Capacity Secret

Two minutes from Bethnal Green tube and overground, with 300 standing capacity and the atmosphere of a venue that's been earning its character for twenty years, Backyard Comedy Club occupies a sweet spot between the soulless function room and the cool-but-impractical warehouse. The comedy club heritage means the space was designed for audiences — sightlines work, acoustics work, the bar flows naturally — and that translates directly into better events. Homemade pizzas and sides are available in-house, and private hire enquiries are handled directly by the venue team.
