41 Portland Place

41 Portland Place doesn't try to compete with London's large-scale event venues, and that restraint is exactly what makes it work. This Grade II* listed Georgian townhouse in Marylebone handles events between 5 and 150 guests — a range where the building's period grandeur feels personal rather than performative, and where the rooftop Terrace genuinely changes what's possible.

The Terrace at 41 Portland Place

The outdoor space is the hidden asset. Planted with olive and eucalyptus trees, lit dramatically after dark, and included with Ann Rylands Room or First Floor hire, it provides genuine al fresco capacity in a part of London where outdoor event space is scarce. Paired with the Council Chamber's ornate ceiling and original mirrors for dinner, or the Reception Room for standing events, the indoor-outdoor combination handles summer parties, Christmas celebrations, and corporate receptions with a flexibility that single-room venues can't match.

Period Character and Modern Capability at 41 Portland Place

The Council Chamber anchors the building's event offering with period details that photograph exceptionally — marble fireplaces, antique mirrors, tall sash windows along Portland Place. Below, the soundproofed Wolfson Conference Suite with its adjoining Exhibition Area handles the more functional side: product launches, conferences, press briefings. The building works because these two registers — heritage grandeur and contemporary capability — operate on separate floors without competing.

Searcys and the Academy of Medical Sciences

Catering sits with Searcys, one of Britain's longest-established event caterers, embedded in the building full-time. That means consistent quality, seasonal menus, and a team that knows every quirk of the kitchens and service routes. Home to the Academy of Medical Sciences, 41 Portland Place directs venue hire profits toward medical research — an increasingly relevant consideration for corporate bookers whose organisations tie venue selection to social impact.
