Full Venue Hire at Woodberry Wetlands

Woodberry Wetlands offers event hire from the Coal House, a Grade II listed 19th-century brick building on the edge of an 11-hectare nature reserve in Stoke Newington. The venue combines heritage industrial architecture with contemporary interior design and a rooftop terrace that overlooks both East and West reservoirs — a panoramic setting that’s difficult to match anywhere in north-east London. Managed by London Wildlife Trust, all booking profits support conservation. The Coal House interior seats 40 guests on bespoke handmade furniture in a bright, open space with muted tones and natural light. From April through October, an outdoor awning extends capacity dramatically — up to 120 for a seated meal or 200 for standing receptions. Full venue hire with the awning or marquee configuration reaches 150 to 200 guests, making Woodberry more versatile than its intimate Coal House interior might initially suggest. In winter, without additional marquee coverage, capacity sits at around 80.

The Rooftop Terrace and Outdoor Spaces

The rooftop terrace is the standout feature. It offers 360-degree views over the reservoirs, sweeping reedbeds, and the city skyline beyond — a perspective that reframes how guests think about the venue’s location. The terrace closes at 9pm, which makes it ideal for ceremony backdrops, golden-hour drinks receptions, and pre-dinner photography rather than late-evening use. Below, waterside terraces, a garden lawn, and the meadow landscape provide additional outdoor space for ceremonies, receptions, and guest circulation between indoor and outdoor zones.

How Hire Works at Woodberry Wetlands

The venue operates an approved caterers list — external caterers outside this list are not permitted, ensuring quality within the heritage building. In-house bar service is included with venue hire, covering wines, beers, and spirits. Music must move indoors after 9pm, and a 90-decibel sound limit applies throughout — no amplified instruments or drums. This suits acoustic entertainment, DJs at managed levels, and speech-focused events, but rules out louder live acts. The venue is licensed until midnight, with extensions to 1am available at additional cost. Full site closures for exclusive hire are available up to six times per year — worth discussing early if exclusivity matters. For late-evening events, the Coal House transforms into an intimate party space once the outdoor areas close.

Getting to Woodberry Wetlands

The venue sits on the New River Path at Woodberry Grove, N16 5HQ. Manor House tube station on the Piccadilly line is an eight-minute walk. There is no on-site parking, so guest communications should flag public transport. The nature reserve entrance is well-signposted from the station.

What Works Best Here

Woodberry Wetlands is particularly strong for weddings, engagement celebrations, summer receptions, and smaller corporate events where the setting carries emotional weight. The rooftop terrace gives wedding ceremonies and drinks receptions a backdrop no conventional venue can offer, while the Coal House interior provides a warm, design-led space for the evening celebration. The conservation charity model resonates with couples and organisations who want their event to contribute to something beyond the day itself.
