About Arch 1 and 2 at The Steel Yard

Club-grade sound, a professional lighting rig with a dedicated engineer, and a venue that regularly hosts acts like Andy C, Hot Since 82, and Honey Dijon — The Steel Yard’s production capability is not an add-on or an upgrade package. It is the venue. For events where energy, atmosphere, and technical quality define the experience, these Victorian railway arches beneath Cannon Street Bridge deliver what most blank canvas spaces promise but few actually have in place.

Arch 1 and Arch 2 at The Steel Yard

Arch 1 is the main event space — 2,200 square feet of cavernous Victorian brickwork with a listed steel crane and track still mounted overhead, remnants from when locomotives were hauled in for maintenance. The industrial heritage here is authentic, dating back to Hanseatic trading infrastructure from the 12th century. The atmosphere under these vaulted brick arches is powerful: natural acoustics amplified by a state-of-the-art sound system that has earned the venue its reputation as a serious live music destination. Arch 2 houses the main bar and connects to Arch 1 with the option of installing a curtain between them for staged reveals — drinks reception in Arch 2, curtain drops, and guests discover the fully dressed event space in Arch 1. Above Arch 2, a 500-square-foot mezzanine converts between VIP area, cloakroom, or professional kitchen with built-in extraction fans, depending on what the event requires. Combined, the two arches take 700 standing, 255 seated in theatre configuration, 200 for dinner on round tables of ten, or 180 for dinner and dance — enough scale for substantial events while the arch proportions keep the energy contained rather than dissipated.

Production Without External Hire

What genuinely sets The Steel Yard apart is that most events need zero external AV hire. The in-house setup includes an extensive lighting rig with a dedicated lighting engineer, club-grade sound with an in-house sound engineer, a reconfigurable stage, catwalks spanning the venue’s length, a scalable LED video wall, a large projector screen, and 1GB WiFi capable of supporting livestreaming. Multiple DJ setups are possible simultaneously. Every booking includes the lighting engineer, sound engineer, event security, cleaning team, complimentary cloakroom, and in-house soft seating furniture. Two dressing rooms handle performers and speakers. For events where branding matters, the blank canvas walls and multiple bar areas provide extensive opportunities for digital signage, projection, and physical installations.

The Steel Yard After Dark

The licensing here removes a constraint that limits most London venues. The Steel Yard holds a licence until 6am on weekends and 2am on weekdays, with no noise restrictions. For Christmas parties transitioning from 200-guest dinner to 700-person standing party, for award ceremonies that want a proper after-party in the same space, for brand activations running late into the evening — the licence means the event ends when you decide, not when the venue’s neighbours complain. Fashion shows and product launches use the catwalk capability and LED backdrop to create runway-style presentations. Conferences and hybrid events take advantage of the AV infrastructure and streaming capability. The DJ Mag Best of British Awards have found a permanent home here, which says something about the venue’s standing in the live music and events world.

Cannon Street and City Accessibility

Tucked beneath Cannon Street Bridge, The Steel Yard sits minutes from Cannon Street, Mansion House, and Monument tube stations. The City location works for corporate guests arriving from the Square Mile, while the hidden-beneath-the-arches entrance creates a sense of discovery that hotel function rooms never manage. In-house catering is handled by approved caterers who know the venue’s kitchen setup and logistics. On-site storage supports multi-day builds for exhibitions and production-heavy events.
