About Stationers' Hall and Garden

Stationers’ Hall and Garden as a complete hire brings together four interlinking rooms and a secluded walled garden — a combination of genuine heritage grandeur and rare outdoor space in the heart of the City of London. The full venue accommodates 400 standing or 205 for a seated dinner, with every space included as standard when you book. No negotiating access to additional rooms — exclusive hire means exclusive hire.

How the Spaces Connect at Stationers’ Hall

Arrival sets the tone immediately: guests enter through a cobbled courtyard that separates the venue from the surrounding City streets. Inside, the Livery Hall anchors the building — carved oak, floodlit stained glass, candlelight — with the Stock Room adjacent, its light oak flooring and 17th-century panelling creating a flexible connector between the larger spaces. The Court Room is the venue’s brightest room: Rococo gold ornamentation, an ornate carved mantelpiece, and windows overlooking the Garden. From the Court Room, a decorative wrought iron staircase descends directly into the Garden — a private, walled oasis dominated by a 200-year-old London Plane tree that shelters up to 250 standing guests. This interconnection is the venue’s defining strength for events. The spaces aren’t separate rooms that happen to be in the same building — they flow into each other, creating a natural progression that larger events can use to structure the evening. Reception drinks in the Garden as guests arrive, dinner in the Livery Hall, coffee and dancing in the Stock Room. The architecture guides the movement; event managers don’t need to.

Events Across Stationers’ Hall and Garden

Multi-format events work particularly well here. Summer garden parties and BBQs use the Garden as the focal point, with the Livery Hall and Court Room available as indoor options if weather turns or the programme requires a formal element alongside the outdoor celebration. The Garden alone takes 250 standing — substantial enough for a standalone summer event. Weddings flow from ceremony in the Court Room or Livery Hall through to a reception that uses every room, with the wrought iron staircase from Court Room to Garden providing a memorable transition. Both spaces are licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, available seven days a week. Conferences can run presentations in the Livery Hall (200 theatre) with breakout sessions in the Court Room (120 seated) and refreshments in the Stock Room, all without leaving the venue. Christmas dinners and corporate entertaining benefit from the Livery Hall’s stained glass and candlelight — the room looks exceptional dressed for winter, with the warm tones of the oak and the coloured light from the floodlit windows creating an atmosphere that needs minimal additional decoration. Product launches, exhibitions, filming, and fashion shows use the architectural variety across the rooms as different backdrops within a single booking.

Stationers’ Hall and Garden — Operational Details

Exclusive hire is included as standard. The 2021 refurbishment added air cooling and full accessibility throughout — essential upgrades that removed the practical objections many heritage venues still carry. In-house AV is provided by Eclipse, with a PA system running through all spaces and a baby grand piano available. Approved external caterers are required — the venue maintains a curated list of providers who understand both the food standards and the operational requirements of working within a Grade I listed building. Both wet and dry hire options are available. The newly renovated Charter Room adds a 12-person boardroom and private dining space with Garden views — useful for smaller pre-event meetings or intimate dinners within a larger programme. The venue operates 8am to 10pm, reflecting its location within an almshouse community. St Paul’s Cathedral is steps away, with St Paul’s station two minutes on foot. Blackfriars and City Thameslink provide additional rail connections.
