About Renegade Urban Winery
An urban winery turned wine bar and event space in a Bethnal Green railway arch — where hand-harvested European grapes were once crushed and fermented, and where wine barrels now double as furniture and atmosphere. Renegade Urban Winery hires for up to 80 guests across the main space and a cosier back area among the barrels.
Founded in 2016, Renegade was one of London’s pioneering urban wineries. Production has since moved to a larger facility in Walthamstow, but the original Bethnal Green arch — Arch 12, Gales Gardens — remains as the brand’s wine bar, bottle shop, and event space. The character of the working winery is still embedded in the room: barrel-lined walls, industrial concrete, and the kind of dimmed, moody lighting that makes a railway arch feel genuinely atmospheric rather than just underground.
The Barrel Area
The back of the venue — the Barrel Area — sits among the remaining wine barrels and takes up to 35 guests. It’s the more intimate space: tucked away, warmly lit, with the barrels themselves forming the walls and the backdrop. For smaller events — private wine tastings, team drinks, intimate celebrations — the Barrel Area offers a focused, characterful setting within the larger venue.Full Venue Hire at Renegade
Hiring the full arch accommodates up to 80 guests, with the front bar area, the Barrel Area, and outside seating in the alleyway all available. The alleyway adds summer capacity and gives events a spill-out area that larger receptions benefit from. Wine tastings can be incorporated into any event format — the team’s knowledge of their own wines and the broader natural wine landscape means tastings can be as guided or as informal as the occasion requires. For corporate events, a structured tasting led by the winery team makes an effective centrepiece; for social events, a more casual approach works equally well.Catering and Drinks
External caterers are permitted, which gives planners flexibility to bring in food that suits their event rather than being limited to a fixed menu. The venue offers in-house charcuterie and nibbles for events that don’t need full catering — a smart option for drinks receptions and tastings where the wine is the main attraction. The drinks offering centres on Renegade’s own wines — made from hand-harvested grapes sourced from the UK and Europe. The bar also stocks a broader selection, but the appeal of drinking the house wines in the arch where they were originally made is part of the hire’s story.Practicalities at Renegade Urban Winery
The alcohol licence runs to 23:00, with extensions available for events that need to run later. Late night packages are offered to 2am, making this one of the more flexible arch venues in east London for evening events. The venue sits at Arch 12 Gales Gardens, London E2 0EJ — adjacent to Bethnal Green station, which puts it within easy reach of the Central line and Overground.Capacity at Renegade Urban Winery
