Opened by Queen Victoria in 1845, the Great Hall is Philip Hardwick’s Tudor Revival masterpiece and the largest hall of any of the Inns of Court. At 450 standing, 250 seated, or 300 theatre-style, it anchors the venue’s large-event proposition. The oak ceiling, striking fresco, and Minstrels’ Gallery create immediate visual drama, while three-metre-tall windows flood the space with natural light during daytime events. The adjoining Bench Rooms and east-facing terrace overlooking the gardens provide a natural flow for arrival receptions or breakout drinks — guests move from the formality of the hall to open garden views without leaving the space.

Lincoln’s Inn Old Hall and Crypt

The Old Hall dates to 1490 and is widely considered one of the finest surviving pieces of Tudor architecture in London. Original roof timbers, stained glass armorial bearings, Hogarth’s ‘Paul Before Felix’ on the north wall, and Inigo Jones’s wooden screen at the south end — it’s a room where every surface tells a story. Named for Mercy Ashworth, the first woman called to the bar in 1923, the Ashworth Centre opened in 2018 and offers something the historic halls don’t: modern conferencing infrastructure. The double-height lecture theatre seats 158 with retractable seating, natural daylight via skylights, and fully integrated AV for hybrid events. Surrounding meeting rooms handle 10 to 60 in boardroom configuration, making the Ashworth Centre a self-contained conference venue within the wider estate — or a complement to evening entertainment in the Great Hall.

Smaller Rooms and the Lincoln’s Inn Estate

The Old Court Room seats 44 for dinner or 70 for a reception, with mullioned windows overlooking the gardens and a country-house intimacy suited to board-level entertaining. The Members’ Common Room, built as a mezzanine within the original Victorian kitchens, blends restored vaulted ceilings with contemporary design and opens onto a private south-facing terrace. During summer, the North Lawn hosts stretch-tent events in June and July, and the East Terrace beside the Great Hall is licensed for barbecues and outdoor receptions.

How Events Work at Lincoln’s Inn

In-house catering comes from a team that won Best In-House Caterer at the London Venue & Catering Awards — fresh seasonal ingredients, bespoke menus, and the ability to handle everything from a standing canapé reception to a formal banquet. Five spaces are licensed for wedding ceremonies. The venue is closed throughout August and over Easter, so availability concentrates outside those windows. Daytime conferences end by 16:00; evening events run until 22:30 with extensions available to midnight. Setup access begins at 17:30 for evening events or 08:00 for day conferences. Holborn station is a short walk, and limited on-site parking is available.
