About Ironmongers' Hall
A Tudor-style livery hall that feels like a country house transported to the City of London — Ironmongers’ Hall brings oak panelling, crystal chandeliers, stained glass, and the country’s largest William Morris tapestry to a venue three minutes’ walk from Barbican station. Ranked 10th among the Great Twelve Livery Companies, the Ironmongers’ Company has occupied this Shaftesbury Place site since the 1920s, and the building’s collegiate warmth is its defining quality.
Four main event rooms across two levels, a private courtyard with a salamander fountain, and in-house catering from a kitchen that sources daily from small local suppliers — the venue covers everything from 10-person board meetings to 230-guest standing receptions with a consistency that reflects decades of hosting experience.
The Banqueting Hall at Ironmongers’ Hall
The first-floor Banqueting Hall is a room of genuine stature: 13-metre soaring ceiling, 3-metre tall windows, oak panelling, crystal chandeliers, stained glass, and a minstrels’ gallery with an organ gallery that can be accessed for AV setups and theming. It takes 170 theatre, 110 cabaret, 150 seated for dinner, or 230 standing. The acoustics are noted as particularly strong, and the room works equally well for conferences by day and candlelit dinners by evening.Ironmongers’ Hall Drawing Room
Adjacent to the Banqueting Hall on the first floor, the Drawing Room is one of London’s most distinctive event spaces. The largest William Morris tapestry in the country hangs as wallpaper across the room, alongside a huge fireplace, bookcases, a portrait of Isaac Walton, and soft furnishings that create genuine warmth. It holds 60 seated or 100 standing and serves as the natural reception and catering space for Banqueting Hall events — drinks before dinner, refreshments during conference breaks, or a self-contained space for more intimate gatherings.Ground Floor — Luncheon Room, Court Room, and Courtyard
The ground-floor Luncheon Room seats 50 for dinner or 80 standing, with wood panelling, Regency furniture, stained glass, and courtyard views. The Court Room — mullioned windows, natural daylight, Gothic-style details — handles 50 theatre, 28 boardroom, or 50 seated. A Committee Room for 10 rounds out the indoor spaces. The courtyard itself, centred on the salamander fountain, takes 40 standing and provides a private outdoor space that’s surprisingly quiet given the City location.Catering at Ironmongers’ Hall
The in-house kitchen sources produce from small, local suppliers daily, with menus spanning modern experimental cuisine to traditional formal dining. Bespoke menus are standard rather than exceptional — the chefs work to the event brief, not the other way around. Quality, freshness, and provenance are the kitchen’s priorities, and the result is food that matches the venue’s character without defaulting to generic banquet catering.Practical Details for Ironmongers’ Hall Events
