About Freud Museum London
The Freud Museum offers something no purpose-built venue can replicate: events held in the actual house where Sigmund Freud lived and worked during his final year, and where Anna Freud continued his practice for four decades afterwards. The famous psychoanalytic couch is here. The desk where he wrote is here. Over 2,000 antiquities line the study walls exactly as he arranged them. When you hire the museum, that atmosphere is the backdrop to everything your guests experience.
Event hire centres on two spaces — the garden and the Video Room — while Freud’s study remains preserved and accessible as the atmospheric centrepiece of any visit. Guests don’t hold events in the study, but they walk through it freely, and its presence defines the character of the hire.
The garden and marquee
The garden accommodates up to 100 standing or 42 seated, with a full marquee option measuring 8 metres by 5 metres available for bookings that need weather protection. Heating is available inside the marquee, making it a practical option beyond summer months. The garden setting — a residential Hampstead plot surrounded by mature planting — creates a sense of seclusion that feels deliberately separate from central London, even though Finchley Road station is a ten-minute walk away. For receptions and evening events, the garden works well at 56 delegates or up to 100 standing when combined with the house. Seated dinners of 42 in the marquee give a more structured format without losing the domestic intimacy of the setting. The Video Room
The Video Room seats 40 and is equipped for talks, screenings, lectures, and presentations. For intellectual and cultural events — book launches, academic panels, documentary screenings, seminar series — the room provides a focused space inside a building whose history adds weight to whatever is being discussed. The combination of garden reception followed by Video Room presentation is a natural format for evening events.Who hires the Freud Museum
The venue suits corporate events, private hire, and filming. It works particularly well for organisations in publishing, academia, psychology, the arts, and cultural institutions — groups whose audiences will engage with the setting rather than simply occupy it. But the appeal isn’t limited to the cerebral. The combination of a beautiful Hampstead house, a garden with marquee capability, and one of London’s most recognisable domestic interiors makes it a distinctive option for milestone celebrations and intimate receptions too. Hire fees support the museum’s ongoing work, which gives corporate bookings a built-in CSR angle.Getting here
20 Maresfield Gardens sits in residential Hampstead, a ten-minute walk from Finchley Road station on the Metropolitan, Jubilee, and Overground lines. The Queen Anne revival house is set back from the road, and the neighbourhood’s quiet, leafy character extends to the venue itself — a world away from the event spaces of central London, but only ten minutes from it by tube.Capacity at Freud Museum London
