Full Venue Hire at Crate Brewery

Crate Brewery occupies the White Building on the banks of the River Lea in Hackney Wick — a former print factory that became E9’s first craft brewery and pizzeria in 2012. Full venue hire brings together the Studio Space, main bar, Canalside Terrace with its own outdoor bar, and the Garden Space for up to 500 standing guests. It’s a venue built from reclaimed materials with local artists, and the upcycled interiors — railway sleeper bar tops, bed-spring light fittings — are authentic rather than styled. For events that need East London creative credibility without trying too hard, this is it. The canal setting does genuine work here. The waterside location creates natural atmosphere that indoor-only venues struggle to replicate, and the indoor-outdoor flexibility means weather isn’t the gamble it might be elsewhere.

The Studio Space at Crate Brewery

The Studio Space is the private hire centrepiece — a former print-factory room accommodating up to 100 guests with its own dedicated bar access. For smaller corporate events, team socials, or milestone birthday parties that want a contained space with character, this works well as a standalone booking. The industrial aesthetic is part of the fabric rather than a design choice, giving the space an honesty that resonates with creative industry crowds.

Canalside and Garden Spaces

Full venue hire opens up the Canalside Terrace and Garden Space alongside the main bar. The terrace runs along the canal with an outside bar, making summer events particularly strong — drinks by the water with beer brewed on site is a proposition few London venues can match. The garden extends the outdoor capacity further. Combined, these areas give large parties genuine room to spread across indoor and outdoor zones without feeling corralled.

What Works for Events at Crate Brewery

Creative industry socials and tech company gatherings suit the Hackney Wick setting naturally. Birthday celebrations and casual parties benefit from a waterside location that feels discovered rather than booked. The craft beer credentials matter for audiences who appreciate brewing provenance — Crate’s own lager, pale ale, IPA, and cider are brewed on site, alongside wines, canned cocktails, and low/no-alcohol options. Stone-baked pizza from the in-house kitchen keeps food straightforward and well-matched to the setting. Private hire starts from groups of 21 via direct enquiry.

Getting to Crate Brewery

Hackney Wick Overground is the closest station, with the brewery sitting between there and the Olympic Park. The E9 location places events firmly in East London’s creative quarter — surrounded by studios and galleries in an area that’s transformed from industrial to cultural destination over the past decade. Opening hours run Sunday to Thursday until 11pm, extending to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays. The venue is dog-friendly, family-friendly, and operates as an LGBTQ+ safe space.
