Six independent street food kitchens, a fully stocked bar, a sun-drenched courtyard, and a fairy-light-filled indoor terrace — all designed by Spanish architects SelgasCano inside one of the most architecturally distinctive buildings in Greenwich Peninsula’s Design District. Canteen Food Hall & Bar accommodates up to 300 for full venue hire, with a catering model that works fundamentally differently from traditional venues: guests choose from six global cuisines rather than one kitchen trying to satisfy everyone. The venue sits one minute from North Greenwich station on the Jubilee line, directly adjacent to The O2, making it naturally positioned for pre and post-arena events as well as standalone bookings. The Design District setting — named one of TIME Magazine’s World’s Greatest Places in 2021 — adds a creative context that enhances events without requiring any additional production.

The Indoor Terrace at Canteen

The main interior space is a greenhouse-like terrace with a retractable canopy roof, flooded with natural light during the day and dressed in fairy lights by evening. It seats approximately 80 for dining events or accommodates 40 to 200 for standing receptions, with flexible furniture layouts that adapt to different formats. The transparent structure creates the feeling of dining outdoors while staying warm and dry — a genuine year-round event space.

Courtyard and Mezzanine

The sun-drenched courtyard extends to 40 to 80 guests, providing outdoor space for summer parties, drinks receptions, and events where inside-outside flow matters. A mezzanine floor sits above the main hall, offering a more intimate elevated area with views down across the venue — suited to smaller groups, VIP zones, or breakout space during larger events.

How Food Works at Canteen

Six independent kitchens operate within the venue, currently serving Jamaican, Mexican, Greek, Chinese, Italian, and Taiwanese cuisines. For private events, a pre-paid voucher or token system lets guests choose freely from the traders — no set menu, no dietary compromise. This is a fundamentally different catering model to in-house kitchens: every guest eats what they actually want, and the variety handles vegetarian, vegan, halal, and other requirements naturally across the different vendors. The fully stocked bar serves craft beer, cocktails, wines, and soft drinks throughout events, with the option for bespoke drinks packages.

Events and Entertainment

DJs, live music, and photobooth services are available through the venue. The events team manages private hires from planning through to delivery, with the ability to add entertainers, florists, and additional services from an in-house supplier roster. For groups of 40 or more, a complimentary bottle of prosecco is included.

Getting to Canteen Food Hall

North Greenwich station is a one-minute walk — genuinely one minute, not estate-agent minutes. The Jubilee line provides direct connections to Canary Wharf, London Bridge, Westminster, and Bond Street. The Thames Clipper river bus also stops at North Greenwich Pier, a three-minute walk away. For driving guests, ample parking is available at the Peninsula. The alcohol licence runs until 00:30 with extensions available.
