About Browns Covent Garden
The former Westminster County Court on St Martin’s Lane, Grade II listed, converted in 1996 into a brasserie and event venue in the heart of the West End. Browns Covent Garden retains the original courtroom architecture — judge’s benches, gavels, sweeping staircases, skylights, and chandeliers — across a suite of four private function rooms that carry their judicial heritage into every event.
The courtroom spaces occupy the first and second floors, accessed via grand staircases and a lift to all levels. The venue is fully accessible with disabled facilities throughout. Combined capacity across all spaces reaches up to 320 for seated events, though most bookings use individual rooms.
The Courtroom Spaces at Browns
The Judge’s Court is the largest room — formerly the main courtroom where debtors and bankrupts were tried. The original judge’s bench remains the focal point, and the room now doubles as a dedicated afternoon tea room when not hired for events. It accommodates 48 seated or 60 standing, with a meet-and-greet area on the first floor landing and its own fully stocked private bar. AV options include projector and screen, large plasma, microphones, and Wi-Fi. The Barrister’s Court, the venue’s largest private dining room, retains its original judge’s bench alongside skylights and chandeliers. With plenty of natural daylight by day and an atmospheric quality at night, this room works for large celebrations and corporate dinners. The Judge’s Chamber offers a more informal setting than the main courtrooms, seating 35 or holding 50 standing. High ceilings and large windows create an airy space that can be hired independently or combined with the adjacent Judge’s Study. The Judge’s Study is the most intimate option — 8 to 12 guests gathered in what was once a space of private contemplation for the judiciary. Ideal for board meetings, private dinners, or milestone celebrations for smaller groups.Weddings at Browns Covent Garden
The venue holds a civil wedding licence, and the courtroom setting creates ceremony backdrops with genuine character. A room that once dealt with births, deaths, and marriages now hosts the celebrations — there’s a satisfying continuity to that. The events team can source entertainment, florists, and DJs from their network of suppliers.Corporate Events and Day Hire at Browns
Day delegate packages include room hire, tea and coffee breaks, AV equipment, stationery, and Wi-Fi, with hot buffet, sandwich, or finger buffet lunch options. The courtroom aesthetic lends gravitas to conferences and presentations without the sterility of purpose-built meeting rooms. The judge’s bench in the main court provides a natural focal point — and, for evening events, a ready-made DJ booth.Dining and Hospitality
Browns’ brasserie operation provides reliable in-house catering across event formats — from canapé receptions and buffets to seated multi-course dinners. Special occasion menus, afternoon tea, and drinks packages are available. The Spey Bar on the ground floor operates as pre-event drinks reception space.Getting to Browns Covent Garden
Leicester Square and Covent Garden tube stations are both a short walk away, with Charing Cross mainline station nearby. The St Martin’s Lane address places the venue within London’s theatre district — pre and post-theatre options surround it, and the energy of the West End provides natural context for evening events. Over 21s only policy applies.Capacity at Browns Covent Garden
