About Studio 1 at Abbey Road Studios

The world’s largest purpose-built recording studio, and the world’s first. Studio 1 at Abbey Road has the proportions to accommodate a full symphony orchestra and choir simultaneously, with ceiling height and volume that give the room a physical presence most event venues can’t approach. Film scores for Star Wars, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Skyfall, Gravity, and Black Panther were all recorded here. From Elgar to Kanye West, Harry Styles to U2, the cultural weight of this single room crosses generations and genres. The space itself is functional rather than decorative. There are no chandeliers, no gilded mouldings, no design flourishes. Its power comes entirely from what it represents and what it sounds like — acoustics engineered to recording-studio precision, in a room where some of the most significant music and film recordings of the last century were made. For events, that heritage becomes the atmosphere.

Studio 1 at Abbey Road — Capacity and Configurations

Standing receptions take 355 to 400 guests across the studio floor. Theatre configuration seats 300 for presentations, screenings, or keynote-led events. Formal dinners accommodate 225, while cabaret seating — half-rounds facing the stage — works for 200 guests at awards ceremonies, entertainment-focused corporate events, or celebrations where sightlines matter. The room includes a stage area and dance floor, making it adaptable across event formats within the same evening — a presentation followed by dinner, or a seated awards ceremony that transitions into a standing reception with live music. The flexibility comes from the studio’s fundamental design: a large, open, acoustically controlled space built to handle whatever is placed within it.

Production Capabilities at Abbey Road Studios

Pro Tools recording equipment is available for events that want to capture performances or create content on-site. Professional recording engineers and vocal coaches staff the Record a Song Experience — a distinctive corporate team-building format where groups of two to 150 record a track together, leaving with an MP3 of the finished result. PRS licences are included for recording packages. The studio’s AV equipment supports presentations and screenings alongside its recording capability. Wi-Fi runs throughout. The venue is fully accessible. Full venue security is included with every event — a working studio with irreplaceable equipment takes no chances, and the security infrastructure is already built into the operation rather than hired in.

Catering and Event Service at Studio 1

Lexington Catering — previously Company of Cooks — manages all food and beverage exclusively. Menus are designed bespoke for each event, with specialist ingredient sourcing and tastings available for clients planning significant occasions. The catering quality matches the setting’s expectations — this is a venue where every element needs to hold up against the room’s reputation.

Exclusivity and Connected Studios at Abbey Road

Abbey Road is a working recording facility. Event hire is limited to a select number of dates each year, and the studio is not open to the public in any other capacity. Hiring Studio 1 is the only way to experience the interior — a level of exclusivity that makes every event here inherently uncommon. Adjacent to Studio 1, Studio Two — the Beatles’ primary recording space, where 190 songs were laid down — holds 130 standing or 80 for dinner. Its original 1960s décor remains intact. Studio Three accommodates up to 50 standing or 30 seated. Combined capacity across Studios One and Two reaches 355, allowing multi-room event programmes where guests move between spaces with distinct identities and histories. The licence runs to 11:30pm with extensions available. St John’s Wood tube station is the closest connection, placing Abbey Road in a quiet residential neighbourhood. The zebra crossing outside remains one of the most photographed spots in London — guests arriving and departing tend to recreate the album cover whether prompted or not.
